This Module is designed to enable learners to learn and apply the principals and practices of marketing

Entry Requirements :

Level 4 Certificate, Leaving Certificate or equivalent and/or relevant life and work experiences.

Learning Outcomes :

The course is split into 5 learning outcomes and grouped into 5 units: The Marketing Environment, Product, Price, Promotion and Place. Below are general outlines:

  • Explain the role of Marketing
  • Explain the concepts: Production oriented, Sales oriented, Marketing oriented.
  • Outline the functions of the marketing department
  • Differentiate between political, economic, social and technological forces on the organisation’s marketing activities.
  • Identify elements of the marketing mix
  • Outline the characteristics affecting consumer buying behaviour eg. Culture, social, personal, psychological
  • Explain the characteristics of service eg intangibility, perish ability, variability, non ownership
  • The role of the extended marketing mix for services
  • Differences between primary and secondary research
  • Marketing survey and research methods
  • Identify the functions in planning in marketing, eg. SWOT analysis, budgeting
  • Details on the 4 P s of Marketing: Product, Price, Place, Promotion
