Management of Volunteers

The ILM Level 4 in the Management of Volunteers has been specially designed for practising managers with the overall responsibility for recruiting, managing and developing volunteers in their organisation.
This programme is aimed at practising managers with the overall responsibility for recruiting, managing and developing volunteers in their organisation. They may also manage volunteers directly on a day to day basis, and/or they may supervise other people who directly manage volunteers. Flexibility is achieved through the choice of optional units which complement the three mandatory units designed to cover the core competences needed by today’s middle managers working within the voluntary sector. This qualification recognises your ability to apply knowledge and skills to perform effectively in the management of volunteers and to bring tangible benefits to your organisation. .
Core Units :
- Involve, motivate and retain volunteers
- Manage and continuously develop your own and others’ capacity for managing volunteers
- Develop productive working relationships
Optional units are provided as required.
Assessment :
Assessment of all management is normally by a portfolio of evidence which demonstrates that the candidate can perform to the required level. Professional discussion is encouraged.
Entry Requirements
Participants should normally be involved in the management of volunteers, either on a day to day basis, or have the responsibility for recruiting, managing and developing volunteers, or for developing the strategy for involving volunteers in their organisation’s work.

Purpose :
Module is designed to enable learners to acquire the knowledge, skills and aptitudes required to work effectively under direction in youth work settings.
Entry Requirements :
NVC Level 1, Leaving Certificate or equivalent qualifications and/or relevant life/work experiences
Special Requirements :
Learners must have prior demonstrable interest in youth work activities and have supervised access to a youth group to work with for practice and assessment Purposes.
Learning Outcomes :
The course is split into 4 units:

- Relating to young people.
- Working with groups in youth work.
- Organising youth work activities.

The module is designed to promote good practice among those that work with young people and communities who are negatively affected by substance use.

Learners must have prior demonstrable interest in community based work and have supervised access to a group to work with for practice and assessment purposes.
